Ready to grow? Readers of all ages are invited to Plant a Seed, Read! with this year’s Summer Library Club, running from June 1 through July 31. Designed to be fun, flexible, and rewarding, the Summer Library Club lets participants choose their own adventure. Everyone can participate — from adults to babies. Grab a bingo card at the library and start checking off activities at your own pace. Along the way, sprout new reading favorites, nurture a new skill, and dig up hidden treasures available with your library card. Earn a reward when you reach the halfway point of your bingo card; complete all required bingos for a finisher reward and a raffle entry. Prizes vary by age group. From babies to adults, it’s never too early — or too late — to plant the seeds of a lifelong learning habit. When children experience the library as a place of discovery and joy from their earliest years, those benefits take root and stay with them throughout their lives. For students, summer reading is more than fun — it’s preventing learning loss while school’s out. Plant a Seed, Read! helps readers of all ages cultivate and strengthen literacy skills. Students who read during summer break retain critical skills, expand their vocabularies, and return to school ready to flourish. And for everyone with a little more free time during the summer, the club provides free access to endless reading materials, enjoyable community events, and opportunities to connect with others who share your interests. It’s a great way to be active, entertained, and engaged without breaking the bank. Children in grades 5 and younger who sign up for Summer Library Club will receive a complimentary “Plant a Seed, Read” t-shirt, while supplies last — made possible by generous community sponsors, including the Foundation for the Vernon Area Public Library, Tamarack Day Camp and Country School, Buffalo Grove Bank & Trust Co., NA, a Wintrust Community Bank, Data Axle Reference Solutions, and others. Everyone is invited to a Summer Library Celebration on Saturday, June 6, from 1–3 p.m. Enjoy frozen treats from Culver’s, live music from Old Town School of Folk Music, and a giant bubble show in the Library Learning Garden. This is a drop-in event; no registration required. For more information about Summer Library Club, visit VAPLD.info/summer.
