School Services for Teachers
School Loans
Teachers who work at schools and preschools within the boundary of Vernon Area Public Library District may request a loan of up to 30 items to support their curriculum. The Library van delivers and picks up loans at the elementary schools. Preschool teachers may pick up their loans at the Youth Services Desk. Call us at 847-634-3650 or use our online form.
School Visits
Youth Services staff visit students in kindergarten through eighth grade during the school year, highlighting good books, teaching library skills, and promoting the Summer Reading Club and other summer programs. We also visit many local preschools.

Parent/Teacher Collection
This collection of materials contains resources for parents and educators of children from birth through grade eight. The collection focuses on educating children both at home and in the classroom. Materials in this collection also address Special Needs concerns. Here's an example of a great resource found in the Parent/Teacher collection.
Playful Reading: Positive, Fun Ways to Build the Bond Between Preschoolers, Books and You
by Carolyn Munson-Benson.
Call number: J P/T 372.4 MUN
Experts agree that in order to support reading-readiness, adults need to supply children
with 1,000 reading-related experiences before their first day of Kindergarten. This helpful
book guides parents through some of those experiences. The book recommendations
and activities in this resource are arranged by "developmental assets", which are those
skills parents and teachers build in children to encourage healthy development.
