The Library will work to protect intellectual freedom, promote literacy and encourage lifelong learning.

The Library will maintain a diverse collection of materials, and provide access to information resources and materials outside its collection. An efficient and professional staff will provide services and programs without discrimination in accessible, inviting spaces.

Vision Statement

As we seek to fulfill our mission, our efforts and resources will be directed towards making the following vision a reality:

  1. All staff will have a complete understanding of and active commitment to the values described in the Library's Value Statement. Our staff will be characterized by teamwork, collaboration, creative and flexible responses to patron needs, and pride in its achievements. Our staff will set the standard for customer service in public libraries.
  2. The Board of Library Trustees will be a strong advocate for Library services in the community. The Board will have a complete understanding of and active commitment to the vision, values, and mission of the Library.
  3. Our materials collection and resources will be broad, current, and available in formats conveniently accessible to our patrons. Our programs and other services will be designed to more completely fulfill our mission. Our physical facility will be maintained in a manner that reflects our pride and our respect for the public's investment in it.
  4. Our patrons will be proud of their Library, consider it as the first and best source to meet their informational needs, and willingly support it through taxes and other means.
  5. Because of the clearness of our vision, the strength of our values, and the execution of our mission, our Library will be one that our peers will want to emulate.

Values Statement

In all our efforts to achieve its vision and fulfill its mission, we will operate according to these values:

  1. Respect for the individual worth of all people. Every patron, employee, or other individual with whom we interact will be treated according to the Library's Standards of Service Excellence. Every patron will be given equal service, without discrimination. Every employee will be given the opportunity to contribute and to learn.
  2. Commitment to excellence in the provision of services. Personal honesty and integrity, the efficient and effective use of resources, and teamwork and collaboration will characterize all our actions. We will seek to provide "value added" services and to build long term relationships with our patrons. We recognize that excellent service comes from a staff that is committed, supported, and respected. We will endeavor to develop that staff.
  3. Support for the foundations of librarianship. We will develop collections, programs, policies, and procedures that allow every individual open access to all the Library's resources. We will seek to provide information representing the entire spectrum of human thought and experience.
