Who is eligible?     See the library district map

All residents of the VAPLD are eligible to receive a VAPLD library card.  You can check to see if you live in the VAPLD by referring to the district map.  Or search here to find your Library district.

Non-resident taxpayers and in-district businesses and organizations are also eligible to receive a VAPLD library card.

Non-residents who do not pay library taxes are eligible to purchase a VAPLD library card under the current State of Illinois rules and regulations governing the issuing of such cards.  The minimum fee for such a card is determined by a formula prepared by the Illinois State Library, and is based on the equalized assessed valuation of the applicant’s property.

Out-of-district residents may use the library when they register their library card at the Patron Services Desk.

What are the benefits of having a VAPLD library card?

  1. Access to a large collection of popular materials, such as new books, DVDs and CDs.
  2. Access to a wide variety of free programs, such as computer classes, story times, musical concerts and reading clubs.
  3. Access to Electronic Resources, such as Reference USA, Chicago Tribune and Facts of File.
  4. Access to community meeting room space.
  5. Receive free homework help online.
  6. Receive discounts to local businesses during promotional events, such as National Library Card Sign-up Month.
  7. Place a reserve/hold on library materials that are currently checked out.
  8. Get materials that VAPLD does not own through interlibrary loan.
